Community can be seen as where people have something in common, and this shared element is understood geographically. In biological terms, a community is a group of interacting species sharing an environment. A different approach to community would be to see it as group of people sharing a common interest other than place. There are number of competitive definitions answering the question of “what is a community?” But the real question is; “Is it is enough just to be a member of community and passively share your interest?” What if you had the chance to be part of a bigger scheme? What if you could be part of a TRIBE, or even further and become a TRIBE LEADER.
A tribe is a group of people that have a leader and work in community. The element that characterizes it, is PASSION. Tribe leaders are passionate about something, and this passion is infectious, drawing true believers into their cause. A tribe (member + leader) is passionate enough to care about something and take action to accomplish something and shake status quo. Leading means showing the way and spreading ideas that inspire change.
According to Seth Godin, the world has always been organized into tribes, groups of people who want to (need to) connect with each other, with a leader and with a movement. The new opportunity is that it’s easier than ever to find, organize, and lead a tribe. The Web has enabled an explosion of all kinds of tribes and created shortage of people to lead them. The market for something to believe in is infinite.
All this got me thinking about WHY! And where it stands. After graduation we faced the recession and the difficulties of finding a job. Instead of conforming to the status quo, the idea that because of the recession we will be stuck, we decided to shake it and bring change. Here we are, trying to start a TRIBE of our own and connecting people we believe can actually make a difference. Our passion lays toward the creative industry and the idea we believe is worth spreading, is the creation of centre for creativity, a platform for collaboration and a source of inspiration for students, graduates and young creatives.
It all starts with small changes. During the TED conference, Seth Godin invited people to start their own tribe and challenge status quos. We strongly encourage you to do so. Here are few things he asked we should question:
- What are you changing?
- Who are you connecting?
- Who are you leading?
